Johnny and family safe, but without internet
After the bombings in the Ugandan capital yesterday, Tim Rosenberg got word from the Longs that they are alright and wanted me to post the news. The bombings took out a major fiber hub in Kampala, and given that the area is now a crime scene, repair crews cannot get in there to fix things. It is unsure how long Johnny will be without internet connectivity.

It’s good to know you’re safe. If you read the article it has an 18 year old quoted in there from Selinsgrove. I’m from close to there, and a member of the UMC which he was with. That and Mission Central where I help out some had organized the group. So quite close to home on many accounts.

Wow. It’s very good to know you and your family are safe. -Sad for those lives taken away… But it’s time to plan for future events like those, as well as natural disasters, etc.
Hopefully Google’s investment in satellite business will somehow benefit internet propagation in Uganda. Wi lan, 4G, what not.
Japan was doing some microdish antenna/mega fast connections tests, but u know, there are mighty economic powers that are against proliferation of new better technologies: ie: (US telcos)
How is possible that other Countries enjoy much faster connections at a fraction of cost in US?!
