There are many resources going to waist in Africa for different reasons primary theft and low maintainace or lack of education in using the equipment... I think the most important thing is to constantly keep reassessing the investment and then follow your gut...

I think you made the right choice... you can't let people take advantage of your good intentions... I hope that "your next target" will be more appreciative

I strongly appreciate the honesty of the HFC organisation, and the helthy mixture of having a strong vision and a realistic view of the african situation

Feeling for you!!!

Be sad for the people who suffer because of greed...but not for the event. You do not control events or circumstances...

Keep on doing the things that you know need done by you!

You made the right decision Johnny. Those computers will be much more effective in the hands of someone that is grateful for such a generous donation.

Sorry you had to go through this man, as I know it sucks, but on the bright side and looking forward, you can easily make a contract template from the first version you presented, and you can follow this mantra going forward: "Contract first, equipment second." Contracts after the fact, well, don't work.

I'm happy to hear that you were able to get all of the new stuff back, and didn't get stung by that whole "possession is nine tenths" thing.

Are you planning on sending a letter to the Hon Migereko explaining the situation and why you did what you did? Politics...

Way to go on the call to remove it though. Tough decision to have to make, but a necessary one based on what you described.

While I'm sure it was a tough decision, I think you did the right thing - that equipment can now be used by folks who will care for it and will use it to teach with. It will be safer and last longer and reach more people :)

This is awesome, and I congratulate you on doing what was needed. I've seen groups getting computers who don't care. I've seen groups getting computers who could afford it but just don't want to pay. These groups make me feel that my time and effort is wasted. There is a group who I'm going to try to help get a few computers who currently has one for several dozen kids, and it's actually the leader's office computer. He thought that a second computer would be helpful. I think I've convinced him that he should get several and setup a classroom. He wants to teach (urban) kids how to use computers and to have computer skills. He is someone I want to give computers to, as it will be used and loved. The computer will mean something to them.
